A Supreme Relocation
9 November 2017
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is expected to have a population growth of 38% over the next 30 years. To ensure that the territory can handle its own population, many government buildings require an upgrade. The Supreme Court building being the most recent building to undertake this upgrade.

The Supreme Court's renovation allows for an increased storage space that offers flexibility for future expansion. While the new Supreme Court building is developed, the files and file storage system are to be housed in a specially manufactured storage shed with a demountable floor to maintain an 8kpa (~800kg/m2) loading capacity.
To facilitate this move, APC were asked to supply and install a new 32 bay Ezi-Drive AisleSaver® (mechanical mobile shelving unit), while also relocating the existing 248 mobile shelving bays to the storage shed. To minimise the loading on the floor, an aluminium track was used with 10mm steel baseplates, connecting the track to the beams underneath the floor. By doing so the dynamic load was spread over a larger area, eliminating the possibility of overloading the floor.
APC worked with the Law courts to ensure minimal disruptions were had with the court proceedings. This was achieved though working inside and outside working hours (9am – 5pm). The mobile shelving system was delivered and installed during normal working hours whilst the relocation of existing shelving was done outside work hours after all of the secure documents had been safely relocated to the new mobile shelving unit.
The ACT Law Courts have increased their storage capacity with more room to cope with future storage of additional documentation storage whilst the new Supreme Court Building is under construction.
